I am interested in learning about the local identity and history of the community.
Why was Neu-Isenburg founded and what is the town's background?
1 Answer
Neu-Isenburg was founded in 1699 as a settlement for French Huguenot refugees who fled religious persecution. Count Johann Philipp von Isenburg-Offenbach granted them refuge and land to build a planned town laid out in a grid pattern. This French heritage is still visible in local street names, such as Hugenottenallee, and historical sites like the Haus zum Löwen museum. Today, it has evolved from a historic settlement into a modern, international suburb within the Frankfurt Rhine-Main area.
