What should I look for when choosing a city for remote work ?

I work remotely, so I have a little more flexibility about where I live. I’m trying to narrow down a few cities, but I’m not sure what factors I should prioritize. Obviously cost of living matters, but I’m also thinking about housing, transportation, safety, weather and having things to do outside of work. Beyond that, I care about walkability and not feeling isolated once the workday ends. I’d like to have a real social life outside of sitting in front of a laptop. For anyone who works remotely, what ended up mattering most when you chose a city?

For me, walkability and having things to do nearby would probably be pretty high on the list. When you work remotely, you don’t get that natural interaction you’d have from going into an office, so I think having cafes, parks, gyms or places where you can meet people makes a bigger difference than you expect.
I’d also look closely at rent and transportation. A city might look affordable at first, but if you need a car for everything, the savings can disappear pretty quickly.
I’d probably shortlist 3 or 4 cities and compare the everyday stuff rather than just looking at the overall best city ranking.
