About Calabria
Calabria, located at the "toe" of Italy's boot, is a region characterized by its extensive coastline, mountainous interior, and a generally relaxed, traditional lifestyle. The economy is primarily driven by agriculture, with significant production of olives, citrus fruits, and wine grapes, alongside a growing tourism sector, particularly along its scenic coastlines. While historically one of Italy's less developed regions, with a per capita GDP at about 60% of the EU average, the cost of living in Calabria is notably lower than the Italian average, making it an affordable option. The climate is Mediterranean along the coasts, featuring hot summers and mild winters, while inland mountainous areas experience more frequent snow.
