My child will start school next year and we need an English‑supportive environment.
Are there good primary schools for expat families in Ilmenau?
1 Answer
Ilmenau’s public school system includes several primary schools that offer integration support for non‑German‑speaking children. Most schools provide language assistance classes ("Deutsch als Zweitsprache") and have teachers experienced with international families. Information about school enrollment, catchment areas, and language programs is available on the municipal education department’s website. It’s advisable to contact the school office early to discuss your child’s needs and to arrange a visit, as places can be limited in popular districts.
A starting point only — it may be incomplete or out of date. Check official sources for anything important, and add your own answer if you know Ilmenau.
