What public transport options connect Ilmenau to nearby cities?

Regional rail and bus services operated by the state transport authority link Ilmenau with Erfurt, Jena, and other surrounding towns. Trains run several times a day and typically take 30‑45 minutes to reach Erfurt and about 20‑30 minutes to Jena. Bus routes complement the rail network, offering more frequent connections during peak hours. You can purchase single tickets, day passes, or monthly subscriptions at ticket machines, online, or via the transport authority’s mobile app. Timetables and fare information are regularly updated on the authority’s website, and there are discount options for students and seniors.
